Tuition and Fees
Tuition may be paid monthly and it is due by the 1st of the month. Invoices will be e-mailed a few days in advance before the beginning of the month.
Tuition may be payed by cash, check, Zelle or Venmo. Overdue reminders will continue to be sent on the 6th of the month, as they are now. Where payment is not received by the 9th, a late payment fee of $15 will automatically be generated and will appear on your next invoice.
These monthly fees reserve a weekly time slot which works like rent one would pay for an apartment. These are flat fees to reserve your or your child's weekly time for lessons, whether you choose to attend or miss. Fees are charged by the month, and are not lowered nor refunded for missed lessons.
Attendance and Makeup Policy
Currently I am unable to reschedule or cancel missed lessons for any reason.
However, I do understand that things come up that may cause you to miss an occasional lesson.
This is why I have four options you can choose from if you need to miss a lesson:
1.If you are available but can't be in my studio for your lesson I can offer an online lesson via FaceTime-just make sure to have a good internet connection!
2. If you know in advance that you have to miss your lesson -you can record your lesson materials in advance and send them to your teacher. I will then use your lesson time to review the recordings and put together feedback in return.
This is essentially an "asynchronous lesson" option.
3. You can attend our 60-minute group makeup class at the end of the month.-I will host this the last Friday of each month at 4pm for all the students.
4. You can gift the lesson to a friend or family member.
If you need to miss a lesson, simply let me know which option you would like to proceed with.
Any additional cancelled lessons will not be carried over to the next month. No credit will be given for missed lessons. Lessons missed without prior notification will not be rescheduled.
Students are also expected to attend all recitals and other events in which they have been scheduled to perform.
Classes and recitals provide valuable musical experience that cannot be made up. If you are unable to attend a class or recital, please notify me as soon as possible.
Note that lesson times cannot be extended to compensate for early arrivals or tardiness. Please drop off and pick up students promptly.
Studio
Parents are invited to observe lessons at any time, and may be asked to sit and wait in the studio during the lesson, at various times.
Hand Care
Short fingernails are crucial for proper piano technique. Please make sure that students come to lessons with fingernails trimmed and clean hands. Students are encouraged to use the sink to wash their hands before lessons.
Supplies and Music
Students and parents should bring a notebook to lessons to record assignments and instructions. Please make sure that all books and materials are brought to every lesson.
Instrument
A good quality instrument in good working condition is essential for progress in learning the piano. It is expected that the student’s piano be maintained in good repair with regular tunings and service.
Practice and Parental support
The study of piano requires a commitment by the student and parents to consistent, daily, dedicated practice.
Piano study is rewarding and enjoyable, however it is also hard work!
Practice time each day should be at least equivalent to the length of the weekly lesson. Parents of young children may need to help to structure the practice time; often, dividing it into smaller lengths of time two or three times a day will be helpful. Most children will need help with maintaining a regular practice schedule. Making practice part of the daily household routine is the most effective way of ensuring that the practice requirement is met.
Enrollment
Enrollment for lessons or classes may be requested at any time. Interviews are required to determine acceptance, placement, and curriculum. Beginners are accepted pending an initial interview.
Withdrawal
Students wishing to withdraw may at any time give one month’s notice to withdraw. Students are responsible for tuition payment for one month from the withdrawal notice.
Dismissal
Enrollment may be terminated for the following reasons:
• Repeated failure to attend/prepare lessons
• Chronic rescheduling of lessons
• Behavior or attitude problems
• Nonpayment of tuition or fees, or chronically late payment of tuition or fees
Communication
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your piano instruction, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me, or talk to me briefly at the beginning of the lesson time. Messages may be left on my voicemail at any time. I look forward to working with each of you and your children.
Summer Lessons
Students are strongly encouraged to continue their lessons during the summer. Summer study will prevent backsliding, from which it can take weeks or months to recover. Many students also have more time to practice when school is not in session and can thus advance quite rapidly . Nevertheless, I also recognize that summer is a time for family vacations, sleep away camp and much needed downtime and offer a relaxed attendance policy during June, July and August. During these months, any lesson can be cancelled by the student without charge and need not be made up provided notice is given at least 24 hours in advance.
